Stages of Creation
The mystery of creation has intrigued people since the beginning of history. How were the universe and the earth created? What lies behind the complexity of life on earth? Religion and science both have tried to answer the questions. There is a literal explanation of creation as well as one that looks at an evolutionary process. Since creation is an abstract concept, it seemed that it would be a good subject for abstract art.
I wondered about the concept of creationism and thought about the book of Genesis. The first chapter has descriptive passages that were good for abstract images. Later, viewing a History Channel presentation on the geological creation of earth, I began to think of creation from a geologic perspective. Eventually the role of an artist as a creator overtook these ideas. The last paintings in this series explore creation in this personal way. These paintings are responses to color, climate, ideas and relationships.
